POSITION Middle School Math/Science Resource Teacher

DESCRIPTION

The role of the Math/Science Resource Teacher is to support the Middle School Lead Teacher in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment and curriculum in concordance with the Montessori principles of education – with the greatest focus being on the creation and presentation of Math and Science curricula, recordkeeping of the students’ progress and any necessary follow-ups in areas of needed representations. QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher – preferably in a Science or Mathematics field of study

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following items are in addition to specific tasks assigned by the Lead Teacher or the Head of School

• Support the Lead Teacher you are working with. Ask for clarification, explanations or directives that enable you to provide continuous support

• Prompt arrival and excellent attendance are crucial. Any anticipated tardiness or illness must be reported to the Lead Teacher and the Business Office Manager as soon as possible so that appropriate staffing of the program is assured

• Responsible for the safety and physical well being of students, who require close supervision. Must be capable of independent supervision of the students whenever so directed by the Lead Teacher

• Be vigilant when supervising children on the playground. Keep in mind safety, enforce the ground rules of the playground and always position yourself so that you can see the children clearly

• Remain calm and in emotional control while with the children. Model appropriate interactions, language and behavior. Relate to the children with courtesy, respect, acceptance and patience

• Responsible for assisting in the cleanliness and upkeep of the Prepared Environment. This may include, but not be limited to: dusting, wiping shelves and materials, laundry, cleaning spills, helping to care for classroom pets, restocking supplies, straightening activities and tidying work areas, etc..

• Ability to support the students in their learning activities while refraining from doing for the child what the child can do independently

• Responsible for helping with weekly uku (head lice) checks as directed by the Lead Teacher

• Responsible for the preparation, copying and repair of materials as directed by the Lead Teacher

• Must politely and tactfully refer any parental inquiries about a child directly to the Lead Teacher

• Attend all school-sponsored events as agreed upon with the Head of School

• Participate in a regularly scheduled meeting/classroom review with the Lead Teacher

• Maintain confidentiality in alignment with the school’s policies and procedures

• Possess ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to chest, squat, kneel and stand multiple and, often, prolonged periods of time

General Responsibilities:

The Hillside Montessori Adolescent Lead Guide (ALG) works with adolescents in grades 7-8. The Lead Guide must be intellectually curious, well grounded in a broad range of academic areas, have a wellspring of energy, a good sense of humor, and be able to communicate fairly and effectively with students and their parents.

As team leader, the ALG must be highly organized, a good listener, a keen observer, and diplomatic. The ALG should be conversant with the precepts of Montessori philosophy and seek to integrate them as much as possible within the curriculum. An integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum, developed with the other team members under the auspices of the ALG should provide students with a balance between self-directed and group learning activities.

The ALG must be willing to lead in a collaborative atmosphere, be open-minded, non-competitive and must be committed to developing a safe, comfortable place to learn and grow.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that Breakthrough Montessori’s mission is fully supported and achieved as laid out in the school’s charter. The Executive Director is a 12-month position. Responsibilities include the following:

Leadership and Strategic Direction:

-Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the organization in alignment with its mission.

-Set strong organizational goals and metrics aligned with the school’s mission and vision to guide decision-making and accountability.

-Develop and implement short-term and long-term plans to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.

Operations and Programmatic Oversight:

-Work with the Principal and the Director of Operations to ensure ongoing programmatic excellence consistent with fiduciary and regulatory obligations, including but not limited to fiscal/budgetary/accounting; reporting, compliance, and accountability; facility and safety management; human resources; the development of additional systems as needed.

-Oversee the preparation, submission, and management of grant proposals, ensuring timely reporting and compliance with grant requirements.

-Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and events.

-Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, donors, and community partners.

Board Governance and Support:

-Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop policies, set strategic goals, create financial and programmatic sustainability, ensure charter renewal, and provide updates on organizational performance.

-Act as a primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff, ensuring clear communication and execution of board directives, as well as strong collaboration between the Board of Trustees and the staff.

-Prepare and present reports, including financial updates, program outcomes, and organizational challenges, to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education and Experience:

Prior experience with Montessori education

The primary role of the Director of Learning Support is to support literacy development in students in the final year of Primary (Kindergarten year) and Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grades). Along with our Reading Specialist, the Director of Learning Support assesses students and designs, coordinates, and delivers learning support for students.

The Director of Learning Support also meets with program directors and faculty to discuss strategies for supporting all students, attends meetings with classroom teachers and parents as necessary, and manages the paperwork associated with the role, including summarizing Neuropsych and other outside evaluations, records related to student progress, and case management.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree

Start Date: The position is available starting January 2025, with a negotiable start date no later than August 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

-Administer literacy assessments with Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students.

-In concert with other specialists, provide direct intervention and support for students with literacy challenges.

-Interpret assessment for faculty and parents.

-Provide case management for students with learning differences: collaboration with specialists, evaluators, families, teachers, and administrators.

-Participate in parent and teacher meetings and provide a summary of conversation write-ups and/or action plans.

-Document learning profiles/action plans and share them with teachers

-Screen and hire independent specialists to provide support for students on campus

Required Qualifications:

-Three or more years of experience

-Growth mindset and excitement for learning the Montessori educational approach

-Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion

-Strong interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build trust and collaborate effectively with faculty and parents

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-Ability to design, coordinate, and implement formal support plans

-Ability to interpret results of neuropsychological assessments

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience with Montessori pedagogy

-Experience with language development programs (e.g., Ebli, SRSD, Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, Leveled Literacy, Science of Reading, UFLI)
