Adolescent Teacher
Wa Ora Montessori School currently caters for children from birth to 12. It is situated in Lower Hutt—twenty minutes away from the capital of our lovely country and has a lovely rural outlook. In February 2009 we plan to open, and we need a dynamic, experienced Montessori 12-15 teacher to help us develop an excellent adolescent programme. This could be a long term position that involves leading the programme, or could be a mentoring role for a couple of years while New Zealand teachers train. The right person would be excited about the prospect of starting up a school in line with Montessori’s vision for this age group. The position would ideally start this year as the teacher will be involved in establishment phase.

Two exciting opportunities in beautiful New Zealand one at the primary (casa level) and one at the elementary level:
1. We are looking for a Montessori trained teacher to head one of our four fully equipped 3-6 classes. The successful applicant would ideally have an education qualification (such as a Degree in Early Childhood education) which would entitle them to gain New Zealand teacher registration however this is not essential. Our Casa has been in operation for 30 years, moving 11 years ago to a purpose built facility on 1.2 hectares of land. Each classroom has approximately 25 children and three teachers, with at least the head teacher having a Montessori qualification. In addition, we have two outdoor teachers and a resource assistant.
The position is available from September/October, 2008.
2. A head teacher required for one of two elementary classes sponsored by the New Plymouth Montessori Association (NPMA). These classes are part of a Montessori Unit within a state school. The unit is led by a highly qualified and respected Montessori teacher. Each class has between 15-20 children and the two classes share an assistant teacher. The classrooms are well resourced and supported by NPMA which also operates a 100 children, four classroom Casa. Profits from NPMA are fed back into the classrooms. We also employ a resource assistant to make and maintain materials. There is a strong commitment for professional development with financial assistance available.
New Plymouth is a city on the west coast of New Zealand's north island, with surfing beaches and mountain just thirty minutes apart. The life style may be casual but our commitment to quality Montessori is not. The teaching team is enthusiastic, dedicated and professional. Assistance with work visas and permits will be granted.
For further information or to submit a resume and letter of introduction, contact the principal: principal.npms@xtra.co.nz
